YEAR  9  AND  YEAR  10  CURRICULUM

In Year 9 and Year 10 students have the opportunity to obtain a sound general education suitable for all future careers and at the same time to pursue subjects according to their personal interests. The Year 10 program provides an education suitable for entry into VCE and future careers.

The courses at both year levels have CORE subjects and ELECTIVE subjects.

Core Subjects
Core subjects are compulsory for all students. English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities are studied for the full year. Health Education and Everyday Finance are studied for one semester each in Year 9 and Health and, Careers and Work Education are studied for one semester each in Year 10. Students must study at least, one Physical Education elective, one Arts elective and one Technology elective in each year.

Electives
Students study four electives for each semester in Years 9 and 10. Each elective has a time allocation of 3 sessions per week. Some electives will consist of Year 9 students only, some will consist of Year 10 students only, and some electives will have students from Years 9 and 10 in the class.

VCE  at  Year  10  -  Extension  Programs

Students in Year 10 are provided access to Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) subjects and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses at Corio Bay Senior College and Flinders Peak. Undertaking VCE units during year 10 is not for everybody, and should only be considered by students who have well established and effective study habits, and who achieve considerable success in the particular subject area they wish to pursue.  In 2007,  14 student will be doing VET courses at Corio Bay Senior College.

PEAK - An Alternative Year 10 Program

PEAK (Practical Education and Knowledge) is an alternative program for year 10 students. It is designed to assist 15 and 16 year old students who are not achieving their full potential, lack the self confidence to succeed, are willing to work, would benefit from an alternative approach to learning and are keen to enter the program.
