SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMS (some examples)

No Dole Program
The No Dole program is a series of
strategies designed to assist students to make powerful decisions
about their futures.
The
program aims to create a positive work
ethic amongst all students
as they set themselves clear career pathways and that
Year 10 students pursue a productive pathway and
participate in further education, training or employment.
Bicycle Building Workshops
Bike building workshops are run by volunteers for interested
students during each semester. These workshops have been established
to encourage students to maintain their own bikes and to learn basic
repair skills. Students also rebuild and restore old bicycles to
donate them to local primary students.
Breakfast Program
Each Tuesday morning a team of volunteers from the Cloverdale
Baptist Church prepare a delicious hot breakfast for all students.
It is available from 8.15am to 8.50am in the school canteen.
CHAT (Confident, Happy, Adolescents, Talking)
Chat groups aim to help students increase their communication and
friendship skills in a safe and supportive environment. The group
helps to build self-esteem and belief in one’s own abilities.
COOL (Control Over Our Lives)
COOL groups seek to provide strategies and skills to assist
student’s express and cope with feelings such as anger and
frustration in a safe and acceptable manner.
Girls LIFE Program
This is an ongoing self development program being offered to all
girls. The program encourages girls to talk about issues that
matter to them in a private caring environment. Other issues
discussed include presentation, friendships and motivation. The
Barrabool Hills Baptist Community Centre sponsor and present this
program with the support of volunteers and Flinders Peak Staff.
Gorgeous Girls Program
This program teaches young women the valuable art of skin care, hair
care, make up and more. As well as learning these
important skills, the program also aims to build
self-esteem and confidence. The Gorgeous Girls Program is funded by
Gateway
Community Church. A fully qualified beautician
visits the school for four weeks. The course ends with a grand
finale where our
gorgeous girls invite friends and family to the
celebration.
Driver Education
This
program is presented to Year 10 students during term two. The
program helps Learner Drivers prepare to obtain their Learners
Certificate and understand issues associated with Learner Driving.
Students look at different questions in the Learners Manual and
discuss various road rules. Students complete mock driving
scenarios on the computer using a program called Motorvation Two.
One day is set aside for parents and students to participate in a
Learner Driver Forum (Key Please!). Students will also complete a
driving program with an instructor.
Seasons For Growth
Seasons for Growth aims to educate students on issues
related to the many changes that can occur in a young person’s life,
assisting them in understandings that the emotions and feelings
associated with change and loss are normal, and providing
strategies for coping with change and building
self-confidence and self-esteem.
